XDP - Karen Knorr - True Colors Seminar

OHMA - Jamboree Jan 22 & 23, 2011 - Thank Yous

Oceanside Minor Hockey Association is a local volunteer run community hockey organization for children ages 5 to 18 living in the area from Bowser to Nanoose. The weekend of January 22nd and 23rd 2011 the OMHA hosted a very successful Hockey Jamboree for our 430 families in our association. We had over 1000 people participate. It was a fun weekend for the kids with pizza or sub sandwiches, give-aways, a poster contest, a skills and drills competition, bands, and lots of hockey games for all our Oceanside players. The Jamboree is to celebrate the generosity of our sponsors, community spirit, and love of the game of hockey.

I’d like to thank all the volunteers who made this weekend possible:

Parents Angela Hinz (atom), Deanna Lynch (atom), and Kelly Wray (bantam) worked tirelessly from September onward to make all the small pieces come together.

Coach Brian Hagedorn and his Juvenile boys team along with Referee in Chief Chris Herr, and our very special People’s Choice award winner, Referee Joe Kinch organized and executed an exciting Skills and Drills Competition, with music provided by DJ Mike Seselja.

Our Master of Ceremonies and knight in shining armour, Ian Holmes, from the Beach Radio, who stepped up to the plate after a dozen others were not available.

Kwalicum Secondary School Students Kati Menasa and Trishia Smillie answered my school PA system call, and volunteered hours of their time to help, even though they are not even remotely connected to our hockey association – now that’s community spirit!

Our special tattoo lady, Elizabeth Cudmore from Xi Delta Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, arrived at Oceanside Place from Deep Bay at 7 am to put temporary tattoos on our kids.

Dan Porteous and all the gracious, generous, and hard-working RDN Arena Employees went beyond the call of duty to make our event work.

Pat Solway and the staff of the Oceanside Place arena concession not only supplied hundreds of hot dogs for our skills and drills, but also garbage bags, napkins, a cake knife, and other items we forgot to bring.

Bands The Wyze Gyze (I still cannot believe that their singer Jonas is only 14); Gold and Shadow; and B2Glee with their amazing voices and dance steps.

Parent volunteers who came out to help with our set-up, take-down, raffles, and duck toss and generously depleted their savings at the raffle tables so that we could pay for this event.

I also like to acknowledge and thank our Jamboree Community Merchant and Community Organization Sponsors for their generous donations and support.

We couldn’t do it without you!

Fall Rituals - November, 3 2010

We had 4 Sisters receiving the Order of the Rose, a recognition for 15 years of consecutive service. The recipients were Beverly Y XDP, Carole C LAI, April B & Irene K from LBK. All 3 Chapters teamed up to perform the touching Ritual. The tables were decorated beautifully with Fallcenter pieces and matching napkins rings with white linens.

The dinner was marvellous - buns, fresh salad, rice, fish and chicken with a ridiculously yummy chocolate ice cream and brownie. The staff were fabulous and the locataion was most ideal and very reasonably priced. Would recommend The Bayside if you are looking for a venue this holiday season.

To top the night off, Hilda from Second Avenue Designs presented a fashion show that combined a few Sisters and some of her own models. Hilda showed us some wonderful fall outfits and gave us several very handy tips for dressing smart ... I have already thrown away my passe nylons. Thank you to Hilda & Margie H for a wonderful time.

A good and fun time was had by all !!!
